What is a Filter Press?

  • A filter press is a piece of equipment used in liquid/solid separation.
  • A filter-press do not substitute the Silo water clarifier; It is an integration for the slurry management.
Specifically, the filter press separates the liquids and solids using pressure filtration, wherein a slurry is pumped into the filter press chamber and is dewatered under pressure. Basically, each filter press is designed based on the volume and type of slurry that needs to be dewatered.
The four main components of a filter press (above indicated) include the frame, filter plates with clothes, manifold (piping and valves), power unit driven by the PLC.
ITALMECC is a trusted expert in liquid/solid separation and offers a wide range of filter press types and capacities to suit specific application needs for trouble-free, economical dewatering.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF FILTER-PRESSES

  • The Automatic filter-press mod. ECOPRESS 300-8 is manufactured with a very robust and compact frame entirely made in solid thick Stainless Steel.
  • The ECOPRESS 300-8 is driven by an oversized Automatic hydraulic piston for a fast and safe closure.
  • Due to its special plates, the ECOPRESS 300-8 can treat from small to big quantities of sludge contained in pits of workshops and/or quarries.
  • The air pump is made of thick aluminum and is abrasion resistant, at low air consumption.
  • The special plates are covered by filter clothes with the goal to optimize the filtering performance and to obtain a faster dehydration of the pressed mud letting it easy drop off.
  • Plates Lifetime is very long. Thanks to the filter clothes, the plates have and additional protection, for this reason you don't need to scratch the mud away ruining them.

Why choose FILTER-PRESSES

  • The treatment to dehydrate the sludge is so much faster.
  • The sludge cakes can be easily handled for the disposal.
  • The sludge cakes can be easily stored in small areas, say a volume reduction of about 70 %.
  • ECOPRESS 300-8 is very flexible treating from small to big quantities of sludge, is solid, reliable, easy to use and to upkeep, cheap in the consumption.

HOW DOES A FILTER-PRESS WORKS?

The working principle of filter presses is that slurry is pumped into the machine such that solids are distributed evenly during the chambers fill cycle. Solids build up into the filter plates chamber, forming the filter cake; the filtrate exits the filter plates through the corner ports into the manifold, yielding clean filtered water. Such dynamic, do not substitute the need to get a water recycling silo decanter upstream the system as a complete and logic circuit.

Filter presses are a pressure filtration method and as such, as the filter press feed pump builds pressure, solids build within the chambers until they are completely chock-full of solids, forming the cake. Once the chambers are full, the cycle is complete and the filter cakes are ready to be released.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our systems enable you to achieve closed-loop zero ambient discharge solutions. Accordingly, no industrial discharge permitting is required. Nothing is going down the drain, out the back door, or into a septic system.
This saves time and money by allowing the company to legally bypass discharge permitting and red tape at the federal, state, and local levels. Eliminates water and sewer charges and any ongoing yearly permitting and periodic testing fees for discharging industrial waste waters. Our customers are in compliance with the “Clean Water Act” and can operate and advertise an environmentally “green” facility, realizing savings by re-using water.
The inorganic waste, a by-product of your process, is easily disposed of as a solid waste as it poses no hazard.

FAQ

What is the difference between a small and a larger press?

The difference consists in the flow rate of sludge to be treated, the more the quantity will be important, the bigger the press will be.

Does it improve filtration performance if I mount a larger press?

Generally not, the press must be sized correctly according to the quantity of sludge that is produced by the plant. It can be oversized but within certain limits.

Can the filter press work alone without the decanter silo?

It is an application made only by some American and Chinese manufacturers but it is inconvenient from a technical, economic, maintenance point of view and occupies an important space.
The filter press was created to dehydrate and compact the sludge quickly and effectively, in the production organization chart it supports the water recycling silo system.

How many microm does a filter press filter?

Also in this case it is a wrong question as the filters mounted in a filter press cannot be of the controlled mesh type, otherwise they would get clogged immediately. However, a filter press in good running order releases crystal clear water similar to drinking water.

Can I feed the machines using the filter press?

The only safe and guaranteed system to know the microm level of the clarified water in transit is to apply a filter immediately before feeding the machine of interest or an automated self-cleaning filter placed immediately after the booster pump group unit to feed several machines at the same time.
Italmecc manufacture both the solutions.
The quantity of water released by a press will always be insufficient to feed any machine because as already explained it is not a machine designed for this purpose. however, it is possible to overcome this problem by placing a filtered water collection tank, but also in this case the quantity available is always limited. Such application is not recommended.

What kind of maintenance does a press need?

The maintenance of a press is rather simple but delicate.
The press is a fully automated machine, but this does not remove the need to always have a watchful eye on the machine.
For example, the plates will need to be cleaned with a spray of water every night before turning off the machine, even if the system is self-cleaning, for greater safety.
The press has reading probes, also these from time to time must be inspected and cleaned with a simple wipe of the cloth.
For the rest, there are signals programmed by the factory where, via the display, the machine will suggest the type of check to be carried out and / or the maintenance to be done.
Above all this, our customer service is always available and can be remotely connected directly with the machine to carry out the necessary checks.
